LHU Construction was selected by the Dawah Institute to convert a 26,000 square-foot computer data center into a community center, 300-student school and event center/gym, and 20 rental suites in under 9 months. The demolition process alone involved removing over 400 miles of cable, 17 extra electric panels, 4 tons of glycol pipes, and enough raised floor tiles to fill 10 shipping containers. As the facility was initially built for only a few people, a great deal of work to the building systems was required to make the building sufficiently breathe, eat and drink. LHUC’s exacting design allowed the building’s capacity to increase from around 10 people on a typical day to over 1,000. On the inside, 13 toilets and 11 footwash ("wudu") stations were added. On the outside, 9 emergency exit doors and 600 feet of sidewalk were built to accommodate the extra people. On the roof, four rooftop units were installed to add sufficient fresh air.
